[The mini-market is now closed, to request private viewing links please contact: intlsales@mk2.com]

As a response to the cancellation of many film markets and festivals, mk2 FILMS has tailored their own online market, dedicated to their latest slate of documentaries. Entitled Reality Beyond Fiction and available to registered buyers only, this market focuses on completed films and includes Tribeca-bound exclusive HELMUT NEWTON: THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and new exclusive title COLETTE, MON AMOUR about the iconic Parisian fashion store. Both films will be introduced to the buyers by their directors, with a word from HELMUT NEWTON’s interviewee Isabella Rossellini. The market will take place for a limited period of time only, from Wednesday, April 29th to Sunday, May 3rd. Buyers willing to watch the films online are to register here and will be sent a private secured viewing link to access the films.

Head of Sales Fionnuala Jamison says “We’ve curated a strong lineup of diverse documentaries this year, some that we won’t be able to world premiere on a big screen this spring as anticipated, hence this new online initiative. These slices of reality, culture and art range from subjects by one of the world’s foremost directors Jia Zhang-Ke, to an intimate and very touching look at gender identity in childhood, to asking the women in Helmut Newton’s photographs to give their version on the legendary photographer. All the films included in this private virtual mini-market are complete and ready-to-screen, air or stream whenever that might be.”

HELMUT NEWTON: THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. The documentary about the renowned fashion photographer was scheduled to have its world premiere at Tribeca, before the festival was postponed. With exclusive archives and new interviews with Grace Jones, Charlotte Rampling, Isabella Rossellini or Anna Wintour amongst other, the women of Newton’s iconic portraits and fashion editorials finally give their own interpretation of the life and work of this controversial genius. Directed by Gero von Boehm, the film is produced by Lupa Film and scheduled for theatrical release by Filmwelt in Germany this Fall, in time for what would have been the 100th anniversary of the photographer. The film has presold to Benelux (The Searchers), Spain (Avalon), CIS (Pioneer), Latin America (Impacto), as well as Italy, Portugal, Baltics, Poland, Japan and South Korea.

New title COLETTE, MON AMOUR offers an inside look into the final days of the iconic Parisian fashion store Colette, featuring exclusive interviews with personalities from the entertainment and high-fashion worlds, including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and many more. In 2017, Colette, the concept store that has revolutionized trends and pop culture for 20 years, is closing, at the peak of its success and influence. Why such a sudden decision? Exclusive interviews and archives – featuring leading industry figures such as Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Futura 2000 or Virgil Abloh – offer the study of a place and a team, a family, a human adventure led by two women, a mother and daughter, Sarah and Colette which ended up influencing the global fashion industry and youth culture everywhere.

Directed by Hugues LAWSON-BODY, the film is produced by HLB, La Pac Film and Highsnobiety. COLETTE, MON AMOUR has been shown in a limited series of intimate screenings and exclusive pop-up events in Paris, London, New York, with other dates planned during Fashion Week in the Fall. The film is available worldwide.

Thanks to this private online screening room, buyers will also have the opportunity to catch-up with mk2 films’ Berlinale titles, including Jia Zhang-Ke’s SWIMMING OUT TILL THE SEA TURNS BLUE, dubbed “meditative and handsomely shot” by Screen International ; Sébastien Lifshitz’s LITTLE GIRL, whom The Hollywood Reporter saluted as “a documentarian of such skill and confidence that his films feel increasingly light on their feet while at the same time gaining in depth and emotional resonance” ; and Patrick & Hugo Sobelman’s GOLDA MARIA, “a testimony of inestimable human and historical value” for Cineuropa. The 3 films still have some territories available.

mk2 films’ documentary slate also includes 2 titles in post-production, THE BRAIN by Jean-Stéphane Bron and BIRDS OF AMERICA by Jacques Loeuille.
