19 apr 2019 MK2 is proud to present five films in Competition for the second year in a row

The next edition of the Cannes Film Festival is already historic for the cinema company mk2, which proudly welcomes the announcement of the official selection this Thursday morning. mk2 will present five films in Competition for the second year in a row, and two feature films in the Un Certain Regard section.

mk2 films is the international sales agent for three of the four films in Competition directed by women: Mati Diop’s first feature film ATLANTICS, Justine Triet’s SIBYL, and Céline Sciamma with her PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG LADY ON FIRE.

Also in Competition is Xavier Dolan’s eighth feature film, MATTHIAS AND MAXIME, for which mk2 films is the co-distributor in France (along with Diaphana Distribution). This marks the seventh collaboration between the Canadian director and the French company. Sold internationally by mk2 films, THE WHISTLERS by Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu will also be screened in Competition.

In the Un Certain regard section, mk2 films is pleased to accompany two first feature films: A BROTHER’S LOVE by Monia Chokri, and PORT AUTHORITY by Danielle Lessovitz. mk2 films represents the rights of the former in France, and sells the latter internationally.

This makes mk2 the number one exporter of French productions selected in the Official Selection this year.

From Bucharest to Dakar, mk2 commends this selection which highlights the diversity of cinematic creation, inviting filmmakers from all over the world to present their own singular interpretation of the world of today and tomorrow. This same desire to bring forth and promote art-house cinema that takes a unique critical view of the world has been central to the development of mk2 since its creation in 1974.
