18 may 2022 Velvet Film Entrusts The RAOUL PECK Catalogue To mk2 films

The agreement between mk2 films and Velvet Film includes the French and International rights on the Raoul Peck catalogue that mk2 will start selling during the Cannes Film Festival.

Encompassing both documentary and fiction, the Raoul Peck collection gathers the essential work of one of the most important voices in filmmaking, whose latest HBO documentary series Exterminate All the Brutes received great critical acclaim around the world and for which Peck has earned a DGA Awards nomination.

The collection includes the Academy award nominated and BAFTA winning I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, as well as the powerful LUMUMBA: DEATH OF A PROPHET (restored in 4K – Cannes Classics 2021) where historical investigation meets Peck’s childhood memories to deliver a vibrant memorial to one of the legendary figures of modern African history.

mk2 films will also now represent Peck’s “Haitian films” including 3 fiction films and a documentary: HAITIAN CORNER, MOLOCH TROPICAL, FATAL ASSISTANCE and MURDER IN PACOT, a powerful testimony to Haitian society, from dictatorship to democracy, where we witness 50 years of Haitian struggle, against its opponents both from inside and outside the country.

Marin, Nathanaël and Elisha Karmitz are delighted and honoured by the confidence Raoul Peck and Velvet Film have entrusted to the mk2 group.
“We are extremely proud to represent Raoul Peck’s vital and political work, he is an essential voice of today, echoing through his films with a relentless attack on racism, genocide, and colonialism”, said Nathanaël Karmitz, mk2 Films’ CEO.

Raoul Peck said : “I’m delighted to know that my films will have such a renowned, established yet innovative home as mk2.”

With the acquisition of François Truffaut’s collection in 1999, Charlie Chaplin’s in 2001, Agnès Varda and Jacques Demy’s in 2017 and Jacques Rozier’s earlier this year, mk2 films distributes a unique library of over 800 films in France and around the world, including both fiction and documentary. A rich collection including films by Claude Chabrol, Michael Haneke, Abbas Kiarostami, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, David Lynch, Alain Resnais, Gus Van Sant – to name but a few…

The whole film collection also includes some of the major films in the history of cinema and a large number of classic films restored in 2K and 4K: from the very pioneers of the industry, such as D. W. Griffith and Alice Guy-Blaché, to Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy, Buster Keaton, up to today’s most acclaimed directors such as Jia Zhang-Ke, Joachim Trier, Céline Sciamma, Xavier Dolan, and Mati Diop.
