Reposado P.C. and The Mediapro Studio has announced today the production of the new feature by Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa, THE GOOD BOSS, described as a ferocious and fun satire of the world of business that will have Javier Bardem in the lead role as the titular “Good Boss”.

mk2 Films has boarded the International sales of the film.

THE GOOD BOSS joins the production and artistic team of Mondays in the Sun (San Sebastián 2002 Golden Seashell for Best Director, 5 Goya Awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for Javier Bardem), again, 18 years after its premier.

Blanco (Bardem), the charismatic owner of a family-run factory, is under pressure as he covets a local award for business excellence. Everything needs to be perfect! But the veneer of this ideal company cracks as Blanco has to deal with a vengeful fired worker, a depressed supervisor, and an infatuated ambitious intern. To win the competition, the manipulative “good boss” shamelessly meddles in his employees’ private lives and crosses every line imaginable, unknowingly starting an explosive chain reaction with wild consequences.

THE GOOD BOSS is the third collaboration between Fernando León de Aranoa and Javier Bardem, following Loving Pablo (Venice 2017 Official Selection) and the mentioned Mondays in the Sun. This is also the fifth film of León de Aranoa produced by The Mediapro Studio and the director’s own company Reposado PC, whose other credits together include Princesas (6 Goya Awards including Best Actress Candela Peña), Amador, the documentary Política, Manual de Instrucciones and A Perfect Day (2015), starring Benicio Del Toro and Tim Robbins and which won a Goya Award to Best Screenplay.

Bardem won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in No Country for Old Men by the Coen brothers. He was saluted for a string of powerful performances amongst which his role in Biutiful by Alejandro Iñárritu, or in Skyfall, as Bond villain. He was recently seen in Everybody Knows by Asghar Farhadi, co-starring Penelope Cruz.

“The Good Boss is an acidic comedy and a corrosive view of personal and work relationships within a family company all tied together by Javier Bardem’s character.”, says the director Fernando León de Aranoa.

Now, 18 years later, our paths are crossing once again, with a project that tackles the socio-professional setting from a different perspective”, says Jaume Roures, President The Mediapro Studio.

The film is produced by Fernando León de Aranoa and Jaume Roures for Reposado PC and Mediapro Studio, respectively; Javier Mendez is the executive producer from The Mediapro Studio, with the participation of RTVE, TV3 and Orange.

Shooting this October in Spain, delivery is scheduled for Spring 2021. Mk2 Films handles international sales.
