Dejanira is dozing comfortably seated in a first-class compartment on the Maine Ocean express. The ticket inspector intervenes and tries to explain that she is in breach of the law, but Dejanira does not understand what is being asked of her, despite the intervention of a second inspector.
Mimi De Saint Marc, a passenger and lawyer by profession, on her way to Angers to defend one of her clients, the sailor Petigas, takes up Dejanira’s cause.
