04 feb 2026 mk2 Films Unites the Complete Works of Céline Sciamma in Landmark Global Deal

mk2 Films has secured worldwide rights to the complete filmography of Céline Sciamma in a landmark catalogue acquisition that brings one of contemporary cinema’s most influential auteur bodies of work under a single international sales banner. The united catalogue launches with the world premiere of Sciamma’s newly re-edited version of her celebrated feature TOMBOY at the upcoming Berlinale.

The Paris-based sales company has long been associated with Sciamma’s international success, representing PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE (2019), winner of Cannes Best Screenplay and the Queer Palm, and PETITE MAMAN (2021), which premiered in Competition at Berlin. Both films achieved global critical acclaim and secured BAFTA nominations for Best Film Not in the English Language, firmly establishing Sciamma as a defining contemporary auteur.

Under a new agreement with producer Bénédicte Couvreur of Lilies Films, mk2 Films now completes the collection with Sciamma’s earlier features NAISSANCE DES PIEUVRES (also known as WATER LILIES), TOMBOY and GIRLHOOD. The move establishes mk2 Films as the exclusive international sales partner for one of the most significant auteur catalogues in modern cinema, while marking a strategic expansion of its Collections activity beyond traditional sales into direct curation and programming.

At the invitation of the Teddy Awards to mark their 40th anniversary, Sciamma has returned to TOMBOY to craft a new cut of the film. The 2026 version will debut as a special event screening in Berlin, offering distributors a high-profile relaunch opportunity for one of contemporary European cinema’s most beloved titles. Sciamma will attend the festival, where she will receive an honorary Teddy Award in recognition of her cultural and artistic impact.

The collection is rounded out by Sciamma’s most recent work, the short film THIS IS HOW A CHILD BECOMES A POET, which premiered in 2023 at Venice’s Giornate degli Autori. The film offers an intimate tribute to Italian poet Patrizia Cavalli. Together, the five feature films form a landmark cycle exploring youth, identity and desire that has resonated strongly with both arthouse audiences and younger viewers worldwide. The addition of the rarely screened short film further enhances the package’s event status.

“Céline’s films form a uniquely coherent body of work that has reshaped representations of youth, female desire and identity on screen, becoming a touchstone of modern feminist and progressive cinema,” said Frédérique Rouault, Head of Collections at mk2 Films. “The tribute with the Special Teddy Award 2026 in Berlin marks the beginning of a renewed celebration of this essential catalogue.”

“It is a great honour to be entrusted with the worldwide rights to Céline’s complete body of work to date. Our ambition is to ensure that all of her essential films reach the widest possible audience across the globe, across theatrical, festival, and curated revival circuits,” said Nathanaël Karmitz, CEO of mk2. “Beyond classic distribution, we are actively creating new pathways to expand theatrical exposure and maximise the cultural impact of our Collections.”

mk2 Films will also arrive in Berlin with two further titles in the official selection: AT THE SEA, directed by Kornél Mundruczó and starring Amy Adams, screening in Competition, and THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VÉRONIQUE, presented in the Berlinale Retrospective in tribute to Krzysztof Kieślowski, marking 30 years since the filmmaker’s passing. The complete Céline Sciamma collection will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market, with sales now underway.
