As Juliette Binoche’s directorial debut is set to premiere in Official Selection (Out of Competition) at the San Sebastián and Busan Film Festivals, mk2 Films is proud to announce it will handle international sales for the film, slated for a 2026 worldwide release as a major cultural event.
Produced by Juliette Binoche and Sébastien de Fonseca (Miao Productions), in co-production with Ola Strøm (Yggdrasil) and Solène Léger (Léger Production), IN-I IN MOTION offers a captivating immersion into the creative process, featuring never-before-seen footage of rehearsals and the staging of In-I, a performance co-created by Binoche and acclaimed British choreographer and dancer Akram Khan.
In 2007, French actress Juliette Binoche and Akram Khan stepped away from their established careers to embark on a bold artistic experiment. Over six months, they co-created In-I, an intense, boundary-breaking performance which they went on to present 100 times worldwide.
Today, Juliette Binoche revisits that intimate journey. From the first spark of inspiration to the final applause, she retraces the emotional and creative arc of a singular collaboration. Drawing on dozens of hours of previously unseen footage, she reflects, as a filmmaker, on the essence of artistic creation, the vulnerability and exhilaration of risk-taking, and the profound transformation it demands.
“Watching the rehearsal footage again sixteen years later, I was struck by the intensity of the work, by the fire of our desire to move forward without fear, but also by the humour that shines through,” says director-producer Juliette Binoche. “IN-I IN MOTION seeks to draw the audience into the very heart of creation. It invites the artist within each viewer to sharpen their edge.”
“We were immediately struck by this daring film,” says Nathanael Karmitz, Chairman of the Board at mk2. “A singular and captivating project that lays bare the creative act, rarely explored on screen.”
mk2 Films is preparing a simultaneous worldwide release of Juliette Binoche’s directorial debut in 2026. The film will be programmed in prestigious cinema networks and major cultural venues across the globe, with further details to follow. Earlier this summer, the Paris-based company successfully orchestrated the global launch of Charlie Chaplin’s newly restored 4K version of The Gold Rush, marking its centenary with screenings in 500 venues worldwide.
In-I In Motion is produced in collaboration with BABEL LABEL Co., Ltd. (MEGUMI), with the support of Kering, Tempio, and the BNP Paribas Foundation. More information at intlsales@mk2.com
