mk2 films boards Justine Triet’s much-anticipated star-studded SIBYL
mk2 films has taken on international rights to SIBYL, Justine Triet’s follow-up to Cannes 2016 Critics’ Week opener In Bed with Victoria and will screen promo footage to buyers for the first time next week at the AFM.
Virginie Efira (Elle, In Bed with Victoria and the star of Verhoeven’s upcoming Benedetta), Adèle Exarchopoulous (Blue Is the Warmest Colour), Gaspard Ulliel (It’s Only the End of the World, Saint Laurent), Niels Schneider (Gemma Bovary, Heartbeats) and Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann) will topline this much awaited third feature from the French director.
It is Virginie Efira’s second collaboration with Justine Triet, after having won the Best Actress César award in 2016 for her role in In Bed with Victoria.
The film follows Sibyl (Virginie Efira), a psychotherapist, as she returns to her first passion: writing. But her newest patient Margot (Adèle Exarchopoulos), a troubled up-and-coming actress, proves to be a source of inspiration that is far too tempting. Fascinated almost to the point of obsession, Sibyl becomes more and more involved in Margot’s tumultuous life, reviving volatile memories that bring her face to face with her past.
Through the entwined friendship between a distressed therapist and her patient, director Justine Triet continues her unreserved exploration of the modern woman’s psyche with this intense and layered story. For Juliette Schrameck, managing director of mk2 films, “Justine Triet is not afraid to shine a light into the dark corners of the mind, and to use touches of humour to do so. Her characters are much like us: they are complex and layered, navigating through their own contradictions and flaws. It is so rare to come across female characters written like this. They are resoundingly modern and full of life. We have long admired her work and are thrilled to be working with such a talent. »
Sibyl is produced by David Thion and Philippe Martin for Les Films Pelléas and was shot on location in Paris and Stromboli, Italy. It is currently in post production. It will be distributed in France by Le Pacte.
