03 jun 2021 mk2 films boards Andrea Arnold’s Cannes-bound feature COW for International Sales

US sales rep Submarine Entertainment will be handling N. America and mk2 films international sales for the celebrated British director’s fifth feature which will bow in Official Selection in Cannes next month

Arnold has a long history with Cannes, with 3 Jury Prizes – AMERICAN HONEY in 2016, FISH TANK in 2009 and RED ROAD in 2006. She was also a jury member for the 2012 Competition. COW, which will premiere in the newly expanded Cannes Premiere section of the Official Selection is a feature documentary which has been in the making for over 6 years.

In Arnold’s words: “this film is an endeavour to consider cows. To move us closer to them. To see both their beauty and the challenge of their lives. Not in a romantic way but in a real way. It’s a film about one dairy cow’s reality and acknowledging her great service to us. When I look at Luma, our cow, I see the whole world in her”.

“We’ve been very passionate admirers of Andrea Arnold’s work for a longtime and are the proud distributors of FISH TANK in France. It’s both thrilling and a real honour to work in a more expanded capacity with her on COW and we can’t wait to introduce this tremendous film to buyers in Cannes” says Fionnuala Jamison, Head of mk2 films.

The film is produced by Kat Mansoor for Halcyon Pictures. Executive Producers are Rose Garnett for BBC Film and Sandra Whipman and Maxyne Franklin for Doc Society.
