A woman travels from southern China to Turin, Italy, to see her husband. But when she is suddenly left on her own, she begins to find herself again – and to find cinema.
Developed within the Torino Encounters initiative launched by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin, Torino Shadow brings together some of Jia Zhang-Ke’s closest creative companions, including actress Zhao Tao and cinematographer Yu Lik-Wai. Moving between China and Turin, the film expands Jia’s cinema into a new international landscape while remaining true to the themes that define his work — displacement, the human consequences of rapid economic transformation, and the director’s enduring faith in cinema.
