PRISIONEROS DE LA TIERRA

A film by Mario SOFFICI

1939 / Argentina / original title : PRISIONEROS DE LA TIERRA / 85’ / Noir & blanc / status : completed

Amid dire circumstances, a collective of desperate men find themselves forced into indentured labour on a hazardous yerba maté plantation. Their tyrannical overseer, Köhner, exacerbates the already perilous conditions, setting the stage for an explosive uprising, masterminded by the resolute Podeley. The tension escalates as it becomes evident that both Köhner and Podeley share an affection for the same woman, Andrea, the gentle-hearted daughter of the camp’s physician.
