The film begins in 1798 with the capture of the young ‘savage’. We then observe his revolts, his attempts to escape, his unhappy stay at the Institute of Deaf Mutes in Paris,and in particular, his encounter with Dr. Jean Itard who takes charge of him, brings him home, gives him the name Victor, and tries to transform this extraordinary little boy into a young man with great expectations.
