In Guinea-Bissau,during the war of independence in 1973, Diminga crosses a devastated country in search of her husband Sako, a resistance fighter missing at the front. When she finally finds and saves him, the war ends but peace brings new battles. As drought and hardship grip their newly freed land, Diminga and Sako must learn to rebuild both their love and their lives.
