In the 19th century Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine, Ivan, a young Hutsul man, falls in love with Marichka, the daughter of his father’s killer. Their bond defies family hatred but is shattered by tragedy when Marichka drowns in a mountain river. Consumed by grief, Ivan marries another woman yet remains haunted by his lost love, until his own fate, too, dissolves into myth and memory.
