Iskandar, a medical student and war veteran, experiences profound disillusionment with civilian life in post-war Indonesia. He feels betrayed by the pervasive corruption and flawed leadership surrounding him. As a result, he finds himself fleeing from the authorities in a city still under curfew following the four-year Republican revolution that marked the end of Dutch rule.

 

Restored in 2012 by the National Museum of Singapore and Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, in association with The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project, Konfiden Foundation, Kineforum of the Jakarta Arts Council, and the family of Usmar Ismail Estate. Restoration funded by Doha Film Institute.
