A young Parisian woman falls in love with a sailor she meets on holiday. Whilst the summer brings them together, the autumn pulls them apart. They continue to write to each other but live separate lives, he in Brest with his friends, her in Paris waiting to see him again. This is the story of an impossible love affair and the portrait of two cities: Paris and Brest. The scenes alternate between black and white, sepia and colour.
