On his travels, lieutenant Orloff saves the life of a stranger, who in return gives him directions to a village where Orloff finds shelter from the blizzard and where he meets and falls in love with a Commander’s daughter, Macha. When a group of gangsters revolt and the leader proclaims himself the Czar of the village, Orloff recognizes in him the man he saved. Meanwhile lieutenant Chaline, possessed by his jealousy and love for Macha, is about to betray Orloff.
